Grip Pressure – How Much?

I had this question about grip pressure and thought it might be helpful for all of you.

Q: Ross, on a scale of 1-10 what should grip pressure be?

A: I would say 3 on a scale from 1-10. You want just enough to hang on, but not so much as to choke the wrists from naturally hinging. Look at the video “Square Club Face” about hinging. The real key is that the grip pressure does not change during the entire swing. You should feel pressure in 3 areas … on the last three fingers of the back hand, the middle two fingers of the lower hand and the life line of the lower hand pushes slightly on top of the thumb of the back hand. These 3 points are equal in pressure and remain constant during the swing.
